Collages created in dialog with the Old Testament Book of Lamentations.

Three collages created during a Fall 2022 art residency at MERZ Gallery in Sanquhar, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. With nine other artists, I spent the week collaging in response to both William Wilson’s 1904 Folk Lore and Genealogies of Uppermost Nithsdale the landscape of southwestern Scotland in which Wilson’s collected stories were set: the expanses of ever-changing sky and hills both rolling and craggy, criss-crossed by stone walls and the River Nith.

Reinterpreting and exploring the iconography and significance of various Catholic saints. Each etching is the end result of my drawings and reflections on writings about, and often by, each saint, study of other images of the saint, and contemplation of sainthood, religious practice, and the challenges of living a good life.

Images resulting from my 2013 residency at Føroya Fólkaháskuli in Torshavn, Faroe Islands.
