My images are meditations on existential questions of purpose, home, and the burdens and responsibilities of adulthood. A cast of animal figures set forth on hopeful voyages of exploration and arrive at destinations of contemplation and solace. Some seek home, some have already found it, and all want to understand and experience their world. A sense of determination and persistence drives all these adventures, as the characters identify, pursue and embrace their purpose while resisting apathy and stagnation.
I create these whimsical journeys of provocative and incongruous landscapes through the ancient and scientific process of etching. I etch lines and textures on copper plates using a variety of chemical and physical techniques. I ink and print these plates on paper to build narrative layers of color and rhythm that tell the story in ways neither drawing nor painting nor digital means alone can.
